From No Plan To A Good Plan

The Lord will work out his plans for my life— for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me. – Psalm 138:8

Don’t abandon me, for you made me.

Ok, I’ll just say it… this is my prayer on a weekly, if not daily basis.

Don’t abandon me, for you made me.

Sometimes I completely forget the first part of this verse. His faithful love indeed endures forever.

The Lord will work out his plans for my life.

I admit that I usually feel like a hot mess. And like that’s how God sees me, too. I mean, how could He not? I am absolutely certain that I am completely opposite from what He created me to be. What He called me to be. I can vividly picture Him scratching His head in confusion as He looks down at me and wonders how on earth He can possibly use me now. Do you ever feel this way?

Lots of words spring to mind. Useless. Broken. Wasted. Worthless. Small.

Those are not words that come from the Holy Spirit into my heart. No, indeed.

What happens is that I forget that God has a plan for my life. It was laid out long before I took my first breath. And because it is a plan from my Heavenly Father, I can know without a shadow of a doubt that it is a good plan.

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. – James 1:17

O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them. – Psalm 40:5

But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. – Psalm 33:11

He has a good plan for me. He has a good plan for you, too. I don’t know what those plans are, but I can look into scripture to see examples of His plans. They blow me away, every time.

Plans for grace. Plans for salvation, even at the cost of His only Son. Plans for mercy. Plans for hope.

This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace. – Colossians 1:6

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. – 2 Timothy 1:9

There are some awesome, intricate, amazing plans in the Old Testament, too, but this one is my favorite.

This is the God that I can trust to have a plan for me. A good plan.

Am I still a hot mess? Of course. Broken? Oh my, yes. Small? Absolutely.

But, I am certain that God sees His Son when He looks at me. I mean, how could He not? I am absolutely certain that the Holy Spirit will enable me to be all He created me to be. What He called me to be. I can vividly picture Him kneeling in front of me to take me into His arms. He is eager to show me how He can use me now.

Maybe you needed reminding, too?

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. – Ephesians 2:10

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. – Philippians 1:6

Jesus died for you, too. If you don’t belong to Him, please don’t delay. None of us knows what tomorrow may bring. (Matthew 24:36) By reading this post, you have now heard of Him. ( If you believe, you have taken your first glorious step. Repent and turn away from any sin or unGodly living. Confess right out loud that you believe that Jesus Christ is the only Son of God, who came in the flesh and gave His life so that we could receive salvation. Confess that you believe that He rose from the dead and took His rightful place as our Lord and Savior. Then, be baptized to wash away your sin and put on Christ. Rise to walk in newness of life, spreading God’s light through the love and mercy you spread to others.

  1. We are always helped through your writing, Beautiful Shelly.

Funny thing, this morning I was praying with a couple law enforcement officers who were women and questioning their worth and beauty. I shared what Ephesians 2:10 says, that’s we’re His masterpiece, and that means that we’re not only wonderfully and fearfully made, but being called beautiful beloveds can’t even touch the thought of being a “masterpiece.” This scripture has been on my heart so much this week. You and I are in sync. 🙂

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

    Blessings, love and hugs, Tammy

  2. Thank you, Tammy! What a sweet compliment. <3
