How to Sav(or) a Life: Unwrap Your Gift. Yes, You.

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. – Romans 12:6-8

Romans twelve is a favorite chapter of mine. There’s so much gold in there for how to savor a life. I chose the above group of verses for my first post like this, because I feel so strongly about honoring and using our God-given gifts.

I hear so often, “I wish I could write like you do.” or “You always say things the way I’m thinking them. How come I can’t do that when I’m talking?”

And I say so often to others, things like:
“I wish I was crafty like you!”

“Your sense of style is something I long to be able to do!”

“I’m so jealous of how you can just open your doors and provide such refreshing hospitality!”

I’m sure we could come up with a hundred more examples, couldn’t we?

But here in the above scripture we see what God has to say on the matter. You remember Him, right? The only one whose opinion matters? (I only ask because my hard head and longing heart take a twisty path to wind back around to Him, time and time again.)

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.

In His grace. Wow.

Not something to be taken lightly, is it? Certainly not something I should squander by longing for the gifts of others.

So here’s what I did. I made myself a printable to remind myself what gifts God graced me with, and how He encourages me to use them.

In his grace, God has given me gifts for doing certain things well. These gifts are different than the gifts given to others, but mine are no less important. I will enjoy and applaud when my brothers and sisters use their gifts for God’s glory. And as for me…

God has given me the ability to write, and I will speak out with as much faith as God has given me. My gift is listening, and I will listen well. I am a singer, so will rejoice well. My gift is to encourage others, so I will be encouraging. With my gift of nurturing, I will nurture generously. God has given me leadership ability, and I will take the responsibility seriously. And I have a gift for praying for others, so will do it gladly.

Thank You, Father, for the gifts You have bestowed with grace upon me. I offer back to you all I have received, and may it be multiplied. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…

Of course I’m going to share this printable with you. I’ve created the template so that you can fill in your gifts. I pray that it helps to strengthen you.

We should enjoy the gifts that God gives to others. We should thankfully follow His lead about using the gifts that He gives us.

So, You. Yes, You. Unwrap your gift.

  1. I love this passage and posted about it yesterday.
It is so great to be reminded that each of us has unique giftings, callings, ministries etc and that we should not covet another’s ability but rather use our own for His GLORY.

    • Amen, Mary! <3 Thank you for being here. You encourage me so much. I love you. Heart Hugs

  2. Recognising that our gifts are no less valuable, and that all gifts come from God. I like that. It’s easy to feel envious when we see others being good at things we’re not good at, isn’t it? Thanks for the reminder. ?
