Seek First Project: A Plea (Day 1)

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. – Psalm 139:23
It’s fitting, isn’t it, that we start out this year-long project with a plea?
Most Loving Heavenly Father,
We come to You now in surrender. We know there is nowhere to hide from You. And frankly, we don’t want to.
Search us, O God, and know our hearts.
Test us and know our anxious thoughts.
Guide us in Your higher ways.
Comfort us as we endeavor to seek You first, in an effort to loose the chains of fear and worry.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
Today, I prepared a journal for myself. Of course it’s on my computer, in document form. It just happened that I don’t have a notebook or journal available, and this way I can even add pictures to the journal, which I love. I typed this prayer in the on the first page. I typed the date and our verse for the day. Then, I dove right in.
I wrote down my top 5 fears.
Right there in black and white, they seem even more menacing than they did in my head. Why is it always that way? But I knew it was important. It was difficult to name only five, but I picked the absolute worst ones. The ones that live deep, deep down and usually only come out in nightmares, because I’m too stubborn to drag them into the light of day. That stops right now.
I challenge you to prepare your heart with a prayer. Then prepare your journal. Drag those worst fears right out into the Sonlight. Because He who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23)
Let’s begin.

  1. Hi Shelly,
Thank you for this great idea.
I do keep a journal, but usually for day to day appointments to keep, phone calls to make, people to contact etc. I have never kept a prayer journal.
I’m going to make it a prayer journal as well.
Love you and keeping you in prayer.
    Linda.

    • Love you, Linda!!! <3 Thank you for taking this journey with me! Heart Hugs

  2. I wrote down my top 5 fears. You are so right, Shelly – it was so difficult to pare it down to only 5……

  3. I am starting this a day late, but that is OK. Yesterday was a “Bed day.” I have a spiral notebook with 5 sections-you are now guiding the section that I did not know what to do with. I will get off now and try to write 5 fears; I wrote 5 blessings earlier this morning.

    • Love you, Sandy!!! <3 Thank you for taking this journey with me! Heart Hugs

  4. Hey My sweet Friend!
Kerryn ( from RM) just shared about your year long study and encouragement, utilizing God’s Word as we battle our fears. What a great blessing!

I myself, am excited and enthused, to be joining you and others in this much needed and timely study.
