Seek First Project: Fear Is A Liar (Day 91)

scary photo

Make glad the soul of Your servant,
For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. – Psalm 86:4

Fear Is a Liar

When he told you you’re not good enough
When he told you you’re not right
When he told you you’re not strong enough
To put up a good fight
When he told you you’re not worthy
When he told you you’re not loved
When he told you you’re not beautiful
That you’ll never be enough

Fear he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
‘Cause fear he is a liar

When he told you were troubled
You’ll forever be alone
When he told you you should run away
You’ll never find a home
When he told you you were dirty
And you should be ashamed
When he told you you could be the one
That grace could never change

Fear he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
‘Cause fear he is a liar

Let Your fire fall and cast out all my fears
Let Your fire fall Your love is all I feel

Fear he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
‘Cause fear he is a liar

Today, I want you to SING. Sing out. Play it over and over again. Mean it with your whole heart. Renew your hope.

Fear is a liar.

Heavenly God, thank You for not giving us a spirit of fear. Thank You for sending Your Son to overcome all fear, even the sting of death. In You we trust. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…

Seek First Project: Our Roots (Day 90)

roots photo

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. – Colossians 2:7

What are roots?

They are the part of the plant that is able to go deep. The part that is responsible for bringing nutrients to the plant so that it can grow stronger.

Sometimes I clearly see that my roots are depending on earthly things to give me what I need. I depend on people. On money. On doctors, medication, laws.

What are you depending on today, to make you strong and healthy? Is it working? Is it lessening the worry? Calming the fear? Tempering anxiety?

Today I put a stalk of celery in a cup of water with food coloring in it. You can use a flower, if you choose. The rest of this week, observe how important your roots are. If I look to tainted water to give me what I need, I end up discolored and not nourished at all.

There’s only One Who gives living water. It matters where your roots go.

Father, may we always seek Your Word as we strive to build our lives on You. Thank You for being a true foundation. Our faith is growing stronger and our hearts indeed flow with thankfulness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…

Seek First Project: Who is Keeping Watch? (Day 89)

Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, “Sit here while I go over there to pray.” He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” – Matthew 26:36-38

Sometimes the weight of worry is crushing, isn’t it? Fear can bring us to the point of what feels like death. Grief, if it comes to that, is a certain type of death to get through. And the anxiety of it all can bring us such loneliness.

Jesus chose those closest to Him to share His worry in Gethsemane. He was anguished and distressed. He was honest with His friends and told them how He felt and what He needed.

You know what this passage tells me, Dear One?

It tells me that Jesus gets it. I mean, He really gets it.

He knows the anguish. He feels the distress. He tastes your grief.

And He… the Savior of the world, the only begotten Son of the Living God… He is the one who is keeping watch.

He loves you that much.

Today, imagine yourself in the garden with Jesus. This time it is He who is close by as you wrestle with God. He’s shouldering your worry. He’s sharing your anxiety. He’s halving your fear.

Detail in your mind how this would go. What would you say? How would He comfort you? What songs would you sing? What would He say as He prays to the Father with your name on His lips?

Sweet Jesus, thank You for keeping watch through our anguish. Thank You for never leaving us alone as we shoulder worry and grief. In Your Name We Pray, Amen…

Seek First Project: Gifts From the Father (Day 87)

jesus light photo

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. – James 1:17

I love this verse. It reminds me where all good things come from.

Because He’s in my life, no matter how dark or scary things seem, there will always be good. There will always be light.

Today, we’re making a list in our journals. List 5 really positive things in your life. Thank God for each one. Pray over each one.

Each is a gift from the Father.

Holy Father, Thank You for these gifts. Thank You for each other. Thank You for the Light. In His Name, Amen…

Seek First Project: Prey or Pray? (Day 86)

praying photo

The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous. – Proverbs 15:29

Worry keeps me running. Fear has me hiding. Anxiety throws it’s cruel shadow over every joy.

There’s only one thing that keeps me from feeling like prey. From being prey.

Prayer.

I often fail to understand how very powerful it is.

Through prayer, I have access to the only True and Living God. I can go right into His throne room!
Through prayer, I receive the interpretive skills of the Holy Spirit, who conveys my heart to the Father!
Through prayer, I find the power to ask and to receive. To seek and to know.
Through prayer, I am granted peace that passes all understanding!
Through prayer, I deepen my relationship with my Heavenly Father, who longs to share in all my joys and struggles!
Through prayer, I can move mountains!
Through prayer, I can reaffirm trust!

Today, write the things you can do through prayer. The things you have access to, the things that empower you. Then spend some time in prayer with your God, about whatever is on your heart today. It’s so powerful!

Father, we can’t express our gratitude enough, for the fact that You meet us in prayer. Every day, multiple times a day, You bend down to listen. You care. We love you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…

Seek First Project: Do You Have Beautiful Feet? (Day 85)

gospel photo

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns! – Isaiah 52:7

Who brought you the Good News? Have you forgotten, in the craziness of life since then, how good it really is?

Has worry driven out the awe? Has busyness pushed away the wonder?

Today, I want you to find your favorite passage that tells the good news of Jesus. Take your time in writing it out in a beautiful way in your journal.

Now it’s your turn to have the beautiful feet! Share your Bible passage somewhere today. In a card, on social media, on the phone, as a pretty handout. Take your pick. Spread the Good News.

Dear God, we are so honored to live in this age when we can be Your sons and daughters. Give us opportunity to spread the Good News to others who are hurting. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…

Seek First Project: From the Dust of the Ground (Day 84)

Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person. – Genesis 2:7

Messes are… well, messy.

When you find yourself in the midst of one, when you throw your mucky hands up in desperation, when you struggle to catch your breath through the cloud of dust around you, remember the above verse.

He formed You. He breathes breath. He grants life.

Even in this.

Even in this.

Today, our task is to work in the dirt a little. Garden therapy. Plant something. Tend it. Get messy.

Heavenly King, My mind is too small to ever understand how You do what You do. But I’m thankful. Please help me to keep this amazement in the forefront when the messes seem to close in on me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…

Seek First Project: On Hope (Day 83)

hope photo

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. – John 14:1-3

What do you hope for when the worry eats at you? What hopes burn bright in the dark of fear and anxiety?

Do you hope for healing? Relief? A windfall? A job or a home or a friend to ease your loneliness?

Do you know what Jesus hopes for, Dear One? You.

A relationship with you. The chance to be with Him forever. Eternity with you.

Trade in all those other hopes that can’t be relied upon. Hand over the hopes that depend on this world alone. Surrender all hope to the Lover of your soul.

Today, Surrender.

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. – Matthew 6:33

Lover of my soul, I love You. I trust You with every hope, because You are the only Hope that matters. Amen…
