Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. – Philippians 4:6
Some days, it feels like a big unfair game of “pile-on-Hendricks”. Do you know what I mean?
Something goes wrong. Then the snowball begins to roll downhill, gaining momentum as it goes. Something a little bigger goes wrong. Totally unexpected. Losses, fights, bad news. Then it happens. One tiny thing “more” piles on.
And that’s all you can take.
Have you been there?
That happened to me today.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Tall order, right? This verse came to mind in the midst of my tumultuous mind this afternoon. And I went immediately to God in prayer.
Most Gracious Heavenly Father, I know that You tell me not to worry about anything. But do You see this, Lord? Do You see what just happened… especially after what all has already happened? I know about the worry thing, I really do, but I also know it’s impossible. For me, it is. I need You to do more than lend me strength, Father. I need for You to remove the worry from my heart and replace it with Your mercy. I need for You to take away my anxious thoughts and replace them with Your truth. I need for You to stand firmly in the way of any fear trying to re-enter my spirit. I know You can. I’m clinging to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
I wrote this prayer in my journal today. Then I wrote some scriptures that reinforce my surrender to Him.
* Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” – Matthew 19:26
* Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world. – 1 Peter 4:12-13
* Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. – Ephesians 3:20
Will you take this step with me today? If you haven’t been hit out of nowhere recently, it would still be great for you to form your own prayer and scripture page to use when it does happen. Because it will.
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” – Jesus
