The crowd rose up together against them, and the chief magistrates tore their robes off them and proceeded to order them to be beaten with rods. When they had struck them with many blows, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to guard them securely; and he, having received such a command, threw them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.
But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them; and suddenly there came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened.

Hi Shelly 🙂
Thank you for your lovely post. That Scripture is so powerful isn’t it. The first section breaks my heart at their suffering, and then my soul rejoices in how our God comes to the rescue 🙂
Anita recently posted…I cried out to the Lord
It’s such a beautiful story, Anita. I’m always inspired by the part where they were singing hymns in their chains and the other prisoners were listening to their songs. Love that beautiful example. Heart Hugs, Shelly <3
I agree with you Shelly- how amazing to be able to sing praises with feet in stocks sitting on a cold earth floor in the dark- yet how their praise in such circumstances moved the heart of God ! Oh to be ready to Praise Him in the midst of pain and suffering.
I recently read Heidi Bakers new book, and she and husband Roland who make been mightily used by God in Africa- have a story closely resembling Paul’s.
I love the story of the Heavenly Man- so powerful- yet once again, all the victories were not easily won ! Brother Yun and his family suffered terribly for their faith- but always, God redeems the suffering and uses it for His Glory.
Much to aspire to Shelly!! Thanks for the challenges you set before us to encourage us to G R O W ~!
Many blessings my friend.
xx
Sending you great big heart hugs, Mary! Love you! <3
