Recommendation Saturday: What Reading the Word Feels Like

We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us. We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. – 1 John 1:1-3

He is no longer a mystery waiting for the world to hear about Him. He isn’t unknown. He isn’t unknowable. Have you seen… really seen?

How to Sav(or) a Life: The Only Real Way to Persevere

snail photo

So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her. – Genesis 29:20

Sometimes life doesn’t feel very savor-worthy, does it?

Sometimes it feels like those dark, difficult times just stretch on and on until it feels like an eternity. How can we endure? How can we persevere, as the Bible calls us to do?

There’s only one answer.

Love.

 snail photo

Not just any old love. Love that is first given to us. Love that literally shakes the world. Love that longs and dreams and anticipates the day when we will be reunited.

and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ – Mark 12:30

Though it may be many years, it can seem but a few days.

Because of the love you have for Him.

And he said, “O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.” And as he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” – Daniel 10:19

Heavenly Father, Oh how I love You! Thank You for Your own amazing love that makes it possible to endure. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…

Sunday Scripture: 2/26/17

My sheep hear My voice,
and I know them, and they follow Me;

and I give eternal life to them,
and they will never perish;
and no one will snatch them out of My hand.

Recommendation Saturday: A Little Good News

happy news photo
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. – Romans 1:16

I had to include the best news of all, of course.
May your weekend be one with good news.

Lessons from the Eunuch: That First Step

chariot photo

And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. – Acts 8:29-31

Oh, this is sooo good, isn’t it?

Last week, we talked about how God keeps His promise to be found by those who seek Him. Today, we see how powerful following the Spirit really is.

Philip is about to guide the eunuch through the first step of Salvation.

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. – Romans 10:17

And Philip does this in such a beautiful example to us all! He starts right there where the eunuch is already reading and he asks a simple, yet profound question.

Do you understand what you are reading?”

That always hits me right in the heart. It takes a moment to absorb that. I don’t think I’ve ever asked anyone that question. I don’t know if I’d have the courage to… but the Spirit, it makes us bold, doesn’t it?

evangelize photo

The eunuch replied with what can be called a “duh” statement:

How can I, unless someone guides me?”

Indeed.

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. – Mark 16:15

Did you know you have creation out your back door? Did you know that when you’re doing mundane tasks like grocery shopping, making a bank deposit, or visiting the doctor, you’re interacting with creation? You don’t have to go far away to go into all the world. Part of the world is right where you are.

Simple things like sending a card, making a phone call, granting a smile or a hug, can make a huge impact for Christ.

And every once in a while, don’t forget to ask, “Do you understand what you are reading?” Or some equivalent.

For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ. – 2 Corinthians 2:17

There are seekers out there.

And you, Dear One, are the answer to their prayer.

Start simple. Start right where they are. Never pass up an invitation to come up and sit with someone who needs to hear about Christ.

The Spirit will lead you. Just…. go.

If you are someone who needs to understand. If you are a seeker… please feel free to contact me at and we will study the scriptures together. <3

Heavenly Father, make me brave. Give me courage and conviction. I wish always to follow the Spirit’s leading. Thank You for Christ. In His Name We Pray, Amen…

Lessons from the Eunuch: The Crossroads

desert photo

Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. – Acts 8:26-28

I just love the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch! This one small group of verses has so much to teach us.

The beginning scriptures show us God at work. See, He’s made a promise.

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. – Jeremiah 29:13

The eunuch, he was seeking. God knows the heart. And He always, always answers.

In this instance, the answer came in the form of Philip. But the answer required his obedience to God’s will. The Lord instructed and Philip went. It’s that simple, it really is.

This is the beautiful crossroads that God creates. A need and a fulfillment of that need. There is never one without the other.

crossroads photo

So today, if you are seeking, please remember that God promises that you will find Him.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. – Matthew 7:7-8

Today, if you are following, take heart that God will direct your steps to fulfill His promises.

But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. – James 1:25

Doesn’t that just blow you away?

So Seekers, take heart. And Doers, be ready.

The eunuch story proves that God has a plan for you both.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11

Heavenly Father, may we always seek You first. Then may we be ever listening and ready to go where You send, to whom You send. I know there are seekers, Lord. Thank You for the promise that they will always find You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
