Recommendation Saturday: The Strength of Our Faith

By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. – 1 John 2:3-6

Faith

This momentous reality.

This thing we rely on.

Are we living it? Do we get it? Can we defend it?

Anything less is just not good enough.

Promises for God’s Princesses: A Review and Giveaway!

princesses

“And I will be a father to you,
And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,”
Says the Lord Almighty. – 2 Corinthians 6:18

This gift book for young girls is the perfect next step in the Tyndale princess line. As young girls grow and leave behind some of the fully illustrated picture books, they still want to feel special, and they still need to know they are loved as God’s daughters. This is the book to share with them. This devotional book is full of Scriptures about God’s love, protection, and promises. The book’s 100 devotions tie in the Scriptures to help young girls apply them to their lives. This diary-style book will attract the growing girl while still making her feel like a princess, a special child of God.

My 11-year-old daughter has spent 2 weeks with this book. She has thoroughly enjoyed it. When I asked her what she thought of it, she said, “If I’m feeling down or upset at all, I can open the book to any page and read what’s there, and it always makes me feel better about myself. I am a Princess and God loves me!”

There are 100 promise devotionals in this great book. Another reason Carissa likes it is because her favorite type of book to read are the diary-style books. This is right up her alley! Each devotional ends with a thought question or exercise to take the girls deeper into the word and more importantly, the relationship with their Father.

We think any girl would be delighted to receive this book, and for that reason, we’re giving away our copy. Enter below for a chance to win.

If you’d like to purchase the book, here is the link to purchase from Amazon.

Dear Lord, please bless the soul of the girl who receives this book. Thank you for Carissa and her sweet heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…

Beside Bethesda: A Review and Giveaway!

Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, was the pool of Bethesda, with five covered porches. Crowds of sick people—blind, lame, or paralyzed—lay on the porches. One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?”

“I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.”

Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!”

Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking! But this miracle happened on the Sabbath – John 5:2-9

Synopsis:
A 31-day devotional from bestselling author and speaker Joni Eareckson Tada that takes readers on a month-long journey toward the deepest healing God offers. The entire book is framed against Joni’s visit to the healing pool of Bethesda to seek healing where Jesus healed.

As Joni relates aspects of her own journey in dealing with the most painful “unanswered prayer” of her life, readers will learn to see beyond potential quick fixes to the deepest and greatest solutions God has for them. As the journey continues, readers deal with topics such as contentment, patience, unanswered prayer, transformation through suffering, wrestling with God, and hoping in God.

I have such admiration for Joni. I’ve written about her several times here on this blog, and you know how her previous books have encouraged me. I’ll tell you that when I chose this book for review, I was excited knowing that I would be giving it away here. However, as I got deeper and deeper into the study, I began to wrestle with God over that. It was almost like a tug-of-war.

Me: “I need to keep this one, Lord. That’s ok, right?”
God: You know you need to give this book to a reader.
Me: “But Lord, this book speaks to me! It’s Joni! Can’t I give the next one away?”
God: I have this worked out already. Someone else needs this, too. You know what you need to do.

We went on like that for some time. Then the most wonderful thing happened. Just a few days ago, I received a package in the mail from my friend, Joanne. She had also reviewed this book. God had told her to send it to me.

Wow. Did that sink in yet? It’s taking a while for me to process, although it shouldn’t surprise me at all.

My review of this book is that you will grow while reading it. It’s a journey you go on with sweet Joni. It’s beautiful in a way that you can’t understand unless you’re suffering and you get this in your hands. In your heart. It goes deep and wide and it will renew your hope and faith. I can’t wait to send it to one of you.

If you’d like to purchase the book, here is a link to Tyndale, the publishers. Here is the link to purchase from Amazon.

Heavenly Father, thank you for shining beings like Joni. Please bless this space and each person reading this. Please assure that this book is sent to just the person who needs the words. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…

Do You Resent the Storms in Life?

photo credit: heanster via photopin cc

“When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever” (Proverbs 10:25).

The New Living Translation (NLT) reads this verse this way: “When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.”

You know what I think? I think I’ve gotten it wrong.

See, I’ve mistaken “a lasting foundation” for a life of blue skies.

How about you?

What He Chose

The bride, a princess, looks glorious
    in her golden gown.
In her beautiful robes, she is led to the king,
    accompanied by her bridesmaids.
What a joyful and enthusiastic procession
as they enter the king’s palace! – Psalm 45:13-15

Today I am sitting in contemplation…

in wonder even…

that He owns all of this

And He chose me.

Today I am astounded…

not to mention humbled…

that He could create this

but longed to fashion me.

Today I will revel…

and be stupefied…

that all of this declares His glory

and yet He glorifies in me.

Today I will renew my hope…

how could I not…

as I recognize that He is God Almighty

and what He desires most is me.

Dear God, I am in awe. I pray to be a worthy bride, worthy of your pursuit, worthy of your adoration. I long to be faithful and beautiful. I love you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen…

Are You a Warrior Because of Your Illness?

“No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength” (Psalm 33:16).

Warrior.

I’ve seen that word used to describe people like us. People like me.

It always makes me want to stick my thumbs in my ears, waggle my fingers, and go, “pppppfffffftttttt!”

In order for me to fit this description, you have to change the definition.

Hop over to Rest Ministries to read the remainder of this post. See you there!

Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts,
for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

Recommendation Saturday: Be Gentle and Ready to Teach

A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep.” – John 21:17

Welcome the babies to the world.
Be gentle and never lose your wonder.

Be ready to teach them everything.
Apply this to physical babies and spiritual babies.

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Recommendation Saturday: Arrange the Cards

You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.
– Hebrews 3:13-14

You.

You are loved more than words. You are someone’s rock.

You make a difference with just your existence… your ear… your smile.

Whatever hand of cards that life has dealt you,
you get to arrange them.

Make something beautiful.
